In the ’70s, Pete Townshend made the Les Paul Deluxe his weapon of choice for many groundbreaking live shows and this Goldtop #3 was based on one of his most prized guitars.
In 2005, Gibson re-issued three 1976 Pete Townshend Signature Series Deluxe Les Paul guitars, based on the “#1” Wine Red, the rare #3 Goldtop and the #9 Cherry Sunburst
This guitar for sale is based on Pete’s 1976 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Gold Top that he smashed at the Boston Gardens on April 1, 1976.
This rare guitar recreates all the quirks of Pete’s #3 Deluxe including the pancake body, neck volute, taped #3, and added toggle switches to tap and change phase on the middle DiMarzio pickup. The adhesive numbering system was Pete’s simplistic method of identifying different guitars and alternate tunings.
Mint condition with all papers and original case.
